1. Playground safety project in Australia - 2025

A public playground in New South Wales required a high-performance safety surface that was durable, flexible, and visually appealing while meeting high safety requirements. They engaged Synthetic Grass and Rubber Surfaces, who selected Pearlbond RB-10, a premium moisture-curing polyurethane binder ideal for rubber surfacing applications.

Installation by Synthetic Grass and Rubber Surfaces

  • The product was mixed with recycled rubber and EPDM granules.
  • It was applied via trowel for seamless surfacing across curved and sloped playground areas.
  • Different colour zones were incorporated to highlight fall zones and create a fun, vibrant space.

Why PearlBond?

Pearlbond RB-10 is engineered to provide superior elasticity, bond strength, and weather resistance, making it an ideal choice for outdoor playground surfacing.

It’s a high performance solution, with:

  • strong adhesion to various rubber types (SBR/EPDM)
  • reliable cure times even in variable weather
  • a durable surface that withstands sun, moisture, and traffic
  • a visually clean, soft, and slip-resistant finish

2. The German Pavilion: Campus Germany 2020

Expo 2020 Dubai

The German Pavilion, known as CAMPUS GERMANY, at the Expo 2020 Dubai was designed to be a forward-looking place of knowledge, research, and human interaction. A range of sustainability-themed examples of innovation and ingenuity were created to inspire visitors both young and old.

The main Expo 2020 Dubai site is a purpose-built precinct on a 438-hectare area (1083 acres), as large as 900 football pitches. It had three themed districts: sustainability, mobility, and opportunity, all centred around the main event stage inside the focal point, Al Wasl Dome.

CAMPUS GERMANY was located in the expo’s sustainability area.

How was Pearl involved?

Pearl formulated and supplied advanced metal sandwich panel insulation containing polyisocyanurate rigid foam cores, which were installed in the German Pavilion.

These sandwich panels consisted of metal facings and an advanced PIR (polyisocyanurate) rigid core. This cladding product is lightweight, easy to handle and quick to fit, making them one of the most cost-effective methods of building insulation. They also offer excellent fire and smoke resistant properties.

Since the panels are thin, they create a smooth and sleek effect that is aesthetically pleasing.

Why is polyurethane-based insulation more sustainable?

Buildings are responsible for over 40 percent of global energy consumption and more than one-third of greenhouse gas emissions. Energy lost through walls, roofs and windows is the largest single waste of energy in most buildings.

Polyurethane-based building insulation provides a higher insulation value compared to other materials such as mineral wool and fibreglass. Metal sandwich panels containing polyurethane are a more sustainable insulation solution by increasing energy savings over a building’s lifespan.

And because polyurethane insulation is robust and long lasting, metal sandwich panels do not need to be replaced as quickly as other insulation or cladding products. This reduces unnecessary wastage which has a positive impact on the environment and the effects of climate change.

3. Roof insulation for Royal Oman Police stations - 2017

Pearl formulated and supplied spray foam roof insulation for various Royal Oman Police stations. It used a water-blown PU-spray foam because HCFCs (R141b) are forbidden in Oman. The market had converted years beforehand to water-blown systems as a cost-efficient material with the lowest global warming potential (GWP) possible, and without any ozone depletion potential (ODP).

Why spray foam?

Polyurethane spray foam insulation can fill any given space or shape, making it the perfect solution for a wide range of construction applications. It creates a sealed envelope that protects against external cold and heat influences, and can be adapted to various climate conditions and energy efficiency requirements.

By creating an airtight seal, spray foam insulation helps prevent the infiltration of outdoor pollutants, allergens, and contaminants, which can lead to improved indoor air quality. It can be applied to walls, roofs, attics, crawlspaces, and other areas, and conforms to all shapes and contours, making it suitable for challenging or hard-to-reach areas.
